Here are a few samples of some of my recent projects…
Race to Survive, New Zealand | Season 2 | USA Network
Director of Photography / Director
Easily one of the most intense outdoor adventure competitions on TV! Challengers must rely on a combination of endurance racing, survival skills, and intuition as they navigate hundreds of miles of New Zealand's harshest terrain, while they race for $500,000!
The competitors, as well as the crew, say this is by far the most challenging, and rewarding, thing they have ever done in their lives!
We thought season one was difficult to produce and shoot…well, season 2 was even harder! We had well over 100 cameras, the terrain was more difficult, there were more features that needed coverage, and the feature themselves were harder to cover for a myriad of reasons! Buckle up!
First Alaskans, Disney +
Director of Photography. This Docu-series follows Alaskan Natives who are focusing on their right to preserve their threatened ways of life, to ensure its survival for the next thousand years.
As the DP, on a small crew, in the most remote areas of Alaska I’m also responsible for aerial imagery, b-roll, timelapse, audio…as well as the story. This is by far one of the most rewarding projects to regularly be a part of!
Race To Survive, Alaska | Season 1 | USA Network
Director of Photography for what USA and Original Productions call their most ambitious and challenging TV series to date!! Over 50 cameras and well over a 100 person crew! This show was filmed in very remote locations of the Alaskan Wilderness!
The crew needed for a show like this is exceptional! I hired the camera team, created and directed the coverage for: cold opens, remote race courses, adventure challenges, race starts, and race finishes. I paired the camera crew with the race teams, as well as AD’d the schedule for the race shooters. While covering the teams during race legs myself and my team were responsible for 100% of the story producing. I designed the audio coverage system for the race legs, and during the races managed the audio. Because of my skillset as a mountaineer/climber/boater/athlete I was able to quickly and efficiently: scout sections of the course, test adventure challenges to effectively make a plan for what was an ever-changing and fluid schedule.
The Deepest Cave
There are very few Directors of Photography capable of filming in a cave like this! The sheer magnitude of the project is difficult to comprehend. As you’ll see…the terrain, the remoteness, the consequences of a missed step are like no place on earth. I spent 30 days, at once, underground! Over 40 days under ground in total! 7 underground camps! Hundreds of rappels, Slack-line-taught-lines, swimming through underground rivers, days of crawling through the tightest sharpest and most un-secure underground piles of broken down rock, zero natural light whatsoever! If I needed a battery delivered to me at the far reaches of the cave it would take at least 10 days to be delivered! Every time I wanted to turn on a light or the camera had to be a calculated decision, due to the lack of resources and the inability to carry enough supplies…This cave truly is one of the most remote places in this world!!
Life Below Zero, First Alaskans | National Geographic
Director of Photography. 2021-2023 | 1st Alaskans is a docu-reality series that focuses on indigenous Alaska natives, who “walk in two worlds: one of traditional ways and one of 21st century challenges… This series follows Alaska Natives as they use sophisticated techniques and methods passed down from generation to generation to thrive in some of the most brutal environments Alaska has to offer.
On this show, I am the Director of Photography. I also do all of my own audio, drone, and specialty coverage.
